History

The idea for the formation of a badly needed elite level Midget hockey league came about in the Summer of 2005. This idea quickly moved along to the reality stage when an announcement was made in the local media that the league was to be a reality and that sponsorship was being sought. Doug Marshall, a tireless volunteer with St. John’s Minor and the St. John’s Junior Hockey League had passed away just a few months before the announcement of the Midget League and his family immediately saw an opportunity to get involved. The rest of the story, as they say, is history and the league, now entering its fourth year of operation, is known far and wide as the Doug Marshall AAA Midget Hockey League, or the DMHL. Doug and Rosemary (Past President of St. John’s Minor and Past President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Federation) Marshall have committed countless hours over the past 40 years to ensuring that the youth of the Province have the best possible facilities and organizations within which to play hockey and other sports and it is indeed an honor for the Marshall family to be so closely associated with the DMHL. To all those who play in the league, coach or manage a team in the league, and to the thousands of spectators who took in last years fast paced and exciting brand of hockey, we wish you many many years of continued success and growth and best wishes in all your future endeavors.
